Koivuniemi, Kulick lead World Bowling Tour points list

ARLINGTON, Texas – After three events on the 2013 World Tenpin Bowling Association World Bowling Tour, Finland’s Mika Koivuniemi and the United States’ Kelly Kulick lead the rolling two-year points list.

The World Bowling Tour is made up of various events around the world and players earn points based on how they finish in each event. The current points system is based on a continuous two-year cycle, so points include some events from 2011 and all events from 2012.

Koivuniemi leads the men’s division with 445 points. He earned points in each of the first three events of the season, picking up 12 points at the PBA World Championship, 50 points for his win at the Qatar Open and 25 points in the recently concluded Brunswick Ballmaster Open.

The next three players in the standings are all from the United States. Mike Fagan sits in second with 418 points, Sean Rash is third with 358 points, and Chris Barnes is fourth with 330 points. Australia’s Jason Belmonte rounds out the top five with 319 points.

Kulick picked up 100 points for being the female at the PBA World Championship, which awarded double points as a major, and leads her division with 444 points. None of the top five women in the standings competed in the Qatar Open or the Ballmaster Open.

The top five women are all from the United States with Missy Parkin sitting in second place with 439 points. Liz Johnson is third with 295, Diandra Asbaty is fourth with 251 points and Carolyn Dorin-Ballard is fifth with 240 points.

The next event on the World Bowling Tour schedule is the International Bowling Championship 2013 supported by DHC. The major event is taking place through Jan. 19 in Nagoya, Japan, and will award double points as a major event.

The World Tenpin Bowling Association, which is made up of 115 bowling federations, governs the sport throughout the world. For more information on WTBA and the World Bowling Tour, visit WorldTenpinBowling.com.
