Koivuniemi, Parkin lead World Bowling Tour points list

ARLINGTON, Texas – Finland’s Mika Koivuniemi and the United States’ Missy Parkin lead the World Tenpin Bowling Association World Bowling Tour points list after seven events on the 2013 schedule.

The World Bowling Tour is made up of various events around the world and players earn points based on how they finish in each event. The current points system is based on a continuous two-year cycle, so points include some events from 2011 and all events from 2012 in addition to the 2013 events.

In the two most recent events, Koivuniemi picked up 40 points for a second-place finish at the Kuwait Open and earned eight points at the Brunswick Euro Challenge in Munich, Germany. He leads the men’s field with 476 total points.

Sean Rash of the United States took the victory at the Kuwait Open and sits in second place on the points list with 464 points. Mike Fagan of the United States is third with 448 points, while Australia’s Jason Belmonte is fourth with 418 points.

Ronnie Russell of the United States won the Euro Challenge and sits in 13th place overall with 192 points.

Parkin remains on top of the women’s points list with 506 points despite not competing in Kuwait or Germany. The leaderboard is full of Team USA members with Kelly Kulick second (484 points), Liz Johnson third (373 points), Shannon Pluhowsky fourth (305 points) and Diandra Asbaty fifth (297 points).

Sweden’s Sandra Andersson was the top female finisher in Kuwait and is sixth with 240 points, while Singapore’s Jazreel Tan earned the maximum 50 points in Germany and sits in seventh with 225 points.

The World Bowling Tour’s next event is the It’s Daejeon International Open Bowling Tournament, a major event on the tour that will take place in Daejeon, Korea from July 7-13.
