DOHA, December 4 – The World Singles Championship action kicks off today with eighty-four men and fifty women competing in the qualifying rounds at the Qatar Bowling Centre in Doha.  The athletes will represent 50 nations in today’s first step.

The lane pattern for the Championship, Athens 40ft, was announced at the technical meeting on Friday with Technical Director Marios Nicolaides saying “This challenging lane pattern suits the topography of the Qatar Bowling Centre best, spectators should expect to see some high scores from the athletes at this competition.”

Up to two men and two women from each country will bowl three blocks of four games in the Step 1 qualifying rounds to determine the top 32 men and top 32 women going into Step 2.  The three blocks of qualifying rounds will be staged over four days from December 4 to 7 with the best athletes advancing to Step 2 on December 8.
