DOHA, December 4 – European Youth Championships silver medallist, Tomas Vrabed of Slovakia

surprised a strong field to take top spot of the Men’s first block qualifying rounds at the World

Singles Championship 2016 with an average (avg) of 238.95.  Christopher Via from the USA finished second on an avg. of 236 and Malaysia’s Rafiq Ismail came in third with an avg of 234.50 after leading the pack in squad 1 of the first block of qualifying.

Vrabed lead the last game in the second squad with a total of 256 pins to snatch the top spot from squad one winner Via by just nine pins. This earned Vrabed the Day 1 High-series award of US$300.

The women will contest their first block of four games tomorrow morning followed by the Men’s

Squad 1 resuming their second block of four games qualifying round. The Men’s Squad 2 will bowl

their second block on December 6 followed by the women in the afternoon

completing two blocks.
