SWEDEN ANNOUNCES WORLD SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS TEAM
With next month’s World Singles Championships hot on the international calendar, World Bowling’s national federations have began naming their top players who will compete against the world’s best at the competition in Doha, Qatar December 2nd – 9th. The Swedish team, who last Singles Championship made the quarter finals, will be back with bite this year and bringing with them some of the country’s best young rookies with the hunger to bring home the gold. Making up the Swedish team will be Jenny Wegner, Joline Persson Planefors, Peter Hellstrom & Martin Paulsson.
22 year old Jenny Wegner is no stranger to international competition having recently been crowned the Champion of the 52th Qubica AMFBowling World Cup. Currently ranking second on the European Bowling Tour, Jenny also competed in last year’s World Women’s Championships. Recent form suggests she is a one of Sweden’s best chances for a medal.
Joline Persson Planefors recently returned home from the 2016 European Championships in Vienna with two gold and two bronze medals. This will be the second World Singles Championships for the 26 year old who was part of the team that made it to the quarter finals in the last event in Cyprus.
Following his win at the 2016 Swedish Team Championships, Peter Hellström made his highly anticipated debut in the National Team at the 2016 European Championships where he took home two medals and a fifth place in the All-Events category. Also hot in form, 41 year old Hellstrom aims to do more in the World Singles Championships.
45 year old Martin Paulsson makes up the 4th Swede in the team. Although recent years have seen him step away from the international spotlight, previous international wins have included gold medals in the Masters competition.
